We are glad to share with you the results of our Life + project, Ecological restoration of forest and aquatic habitats in the upper Dâmbovița Valley, Munții Făgăraș.

Accessed in 2012, the funding of  5.8 million € (50% European Commission, 50% FCC and partners) helped us purchase 1,600 hectares of forest: we secured and stopped exploitation on the intact surfaces, we replanted on abusive clear-cut areas.

Results:

> 293 ha of pristine forests and quasi-natural forests identified and introduced in National Catalogue of Virgin and quasi-virgin Forests,  reintroduced into full protection
> 428 ha of clear-cut areas reforested
> 1.200.000 saplings planted (fir (Abies alba), beech (Fagus sylvatica), spruce (Picea Abies), Common ash (Fraxinus excelsior), Wych elm (Ulmus glabra), Sycamore maple (Acer pseudoplatanus), Rowan (Sorbus aucuparia), European yew (Taxus baccata)).
> setting up 3 tree nurseries for specific forest species
> 17.000 m of skidding tracks repaired and due to this action the short vegetation is now present in all our restored areas
> conversion of 210 ha spruce monocultures into natural forests
> 23 km of water courses restored with alder galleries, that fix the river banks and prevent flooding
> 300 jobs created for people from the local communities
> dozens of children involved in ecological education classes
> research, species and habitats monitoring

Six years of sustained work and tangible results that you can see in the field and in the materials that we will continue to present to you.
