Open-air music with Subcarpați and Vama, over 20 guided hikes and nature tours, four debates in the Carpathia Talks series, activities for children and families, percussion and craft workshops, and an artistic installation highlighting the Moașa River – all of these make Făgăraș Fest 2025 a memorable summer weekend at the foot of the Făgăraș Mountains. The sixth edition takes place from 11th–13th July in Sebeșu de Sus, Racovița Commune, Sibiu County, bringing together families, locals, artists, and explorers around a simple idea: nature deserves to be celebrated and protected together. Festival tickets are available at www.fagarasfest.ro, and bookings for guided tours can be made directly on the website.
In Moașa Valley, where trails lead to waterfalls and shaded forests cover every step, the sixth edition of Făgăraș Fest creates an experience for all ages, combining music, dialogue, nature exploration, and a local initiative with tangible impact. Făgăraș Fest is organised by Foundation Conservation Carpathia and Racovița Town Hall, and aims to remain a platform connecting people, nature, and communities.
Camping with Impact: Direct Contribution to the Community
The symbolic camping fee will be fully directed to Racovița Town Hall, which will develop a project benefiting the local community in Sebeșu de Sus. Every participant choosing to camp contributes directly to local initiatives – a concrete form of involvement born from collaboration between the community and the organisers.
A Festival as Varied as a Hike – Programme for All Ages
Subcarpați will open the festival on Friday, 11th July, with a concert eagerly awaited for by fans of etno-electro-hip-hop music. The evening continues with a screening of the documentary The Architects of Nature – a moving story about the reintroduction of beavers and European bison in the Făgăraș Mountains – followed by a discussion on the two species with Adrian Aldea, Species Reintroduction Department Manager, and Liviu Ungureanu, Beaver Reintroduction Specialist. On Saturday, Vama will take the stage, inviting the audience to dance and sing in the crisp mountain air. DJ Raul Carpiuc and local artists will complete the festival’s soundscape.
The festival programme is designed as a journey through nature and community. Guided tours – one of the festival’s most appreciated components – offer a variety of experiences for all ages and interests. Visitors can explore the waterfalls along Moașa Valley, crossing the river and forest to reach the spectacular Chiișoara Waterfall, or hike to Suru Cabin for a full-day excursion with unforgettable views.
For those interested in biodiversity, the festival offers botanical tours, where participants discover local flora using digital microscopes and identification guides, hear stories about plants, and learn about the importance of conservation. In fauna tours, visitors can observe signs of wildlife and explore habitats. Foundation rangers will explain monitoring methods with camera traps and discuss how species presence is documented non-invasively.
Birdwatching tours, led by passionate guides, are especially suited to beginners, allowing participants to listen to, identify, and admire the birds of the Făgăraș Mountains. Children, and anyone interested, are invited to join nocturnal bat tours, where they can listen to bats’ ultrasonic sounds with special detectors and learn from experts about the vital role these creatures play in the ecosystem.
Exploration continues in the village. Participants can discover the history and identity of Sebeșu de Sus, visiting the brick factory ruins, the ‘St. Apostles Peter and Paul’ church, and the old mill, guided by a local storyteller familiar with the village’s heritage.
For children and teenagers, and curious parents, the programme includes the ‘Făgăraș Mountains Explorers’ challenge – a 10-station competition designed to develop observation skills, teamwork, and love for nature. Meanwhile, participants of all ages can join a percussion workshop, where djembe drums and rhythm games create a shared musical experience without no prior musical knowledge required.
Carpathia Talks – Dialogues on Nature, Economy, and Our Shared Environment
Carpathia Talks returns with four outdoor debate sessions. On Saturday morning, Neighbours in Nature opens the series with an honest discussion about coexisting with wildlife – bears, wolves, lynx – in the same landscape. In the afternoon, Nature as an Economic Strategy explores solutions and examples of how communities can benefit from the value of nature. On Sunday, the dialogue continues with National Parks – Vital Spaces for Nature and People, followed by The Role of NGOs in Society, a session on engagement, trust, and resilience.
A special feature of the festival is the ‘Susur’ artistic installation by Atelier Vrac, a temporary and interactive structure placed directly on the Moașa River near the festival site. The installation invites visitors to approach the water calmly and curiously, offering an experience of observation, crossing, and connection with the river. It poetically interprets the bond between community and nature, transforming the river into a living space for reflection and visual dialogue.
“Făgăraș Fest is an experiential festival, one that brings people closer to nature,” said Victoria Donos, Director of Communications at Foundation Conservation Carpathia, “uniting city and village dwellers to discover a small part of the Făgăraș Mountains, explore the community, and be together – to remember, even for a few days, how simple it is to be present, how natural it is to enjoy what surrounds us, and how strong we become when we are connected: with each other, with nature, and with the place. We are delighted that this year, simply by choosing to camp, the audience contributes to the development of a project benefiting the local community in Sebeșu de Sus. Music, guided tours, workshops, and Carpathia Talks all become forms of active participation in protecting and supporting this place.”
Where to Eat and Stay at Făgăraș Fest 2025
Festival-goers can enjoy meals prepared with care by local producers, with eight local producers covering all tastes and preferences. Vegetarian options and lighter meals for families with children will also be available.
Accommodation is available in tents at the camping area near the river, which offers basic facilities. Those preferring more comfort can stay in Sebeșu de Sus, Racovița, or nearby villages.
Făgăraș Fest remains an event for all seeking an authentic experience. The festival continues its mission to support the creation of the Făgăraș Mountains National Park and to emphasise the importance of protecting one of Romania’s most valuable ecosystems. By supporting local producers, the Sebeșu de Sus community, and responsible tourism, the festival is not only a celebration of nature but also a concrete step toward a sustainable local economy connected to community values.
The event is supported by Alpha Bank.
