This year, Făgăraș Fest invites visitors to a unique water experience: the temporary installation ‘Susur’, created by Atelier Vrac, transforms the Moașa River into a space for exploration, relaxation, and play, where nature and art meet spectacularly. The festival takes place from 11–13 July in Sebeșu de Sus, Sibiu County, and is organised by Foundation Conservation Carpathia together with Racovița Town Hall. Tickets are available at www.fagarasfest.ro, and bookings for guided tours can be made directly on the website.
For the first time, the festival presents a temporary artistic installation placed over the watercourse, featuring a pontoon, a shaded area, and a relaxation space, allowing participants to enjoy the coolness of the river while contemplating the valley and surrounding nature.
“We wanted the installation to become a reason for people to approach the river sensitively and reflect on the importance of keeping places unaltered,” explain the artists from Atelier Vrac. “Susur speaks about the fragility and charm of mountain waters, in a context where they are increasingly threatened by harsh riverbank interventions, invasive constructions, or pollution.”
“The Susur installation offers a unique space inviting the public not only to admire the river but to interact with it directly, said Victoria Donos, Director of Communications at Foundation Conservation Carpathia, “to step on it, touch it, feel the cold water, and discover the beauty of the Făgăraș Mountains in an entirely new way. We want visitors to experience something that takes them out of their usual landscape and connects them deeply with nature. Such artistic interventions open an authentic dialogue between people and the valuable places we protect.”
Through their intervention, the artists create a dialogue between contemporary art and nature conservation: the installation becomes a ‘lens’ through which festival participants can view the Făgăraș Mountains with greater sensitivity and attention. “Temporary interventions like this can change how we relate to nature,” the architects added, “inviting contemplation and direct interaction with its essential elements: water, air, light.”
The installation will be dismantled at the end of the festival, restoring the area to its original state.
Făgăraș Fest – Celebrating Nature and Community
Now in its sixth edition, Făgăraș Fest takes place from 11–13 July, featuring over 20 guided hikes and nature tours, four Carpathia Talks debate sessions, activities for children and families, percussion and craft workshops, concerts by Subcarpați and Vama, and a camping area fully integrated into the mountain landscape. The event promotes the deep connection between communities, nature, and art, emphasising the protection and sustainable exploration of the Făgăraș Mountains.
The Susur installation will be accessible throughout the festival and forms an integral part of the three-day experience at the foot of Romania’s highest mountains. The full festival programme is available on the official website.
About Atelier Vrac
Atelier Vrac is a studio founded by Cristi Bădescu and Zenaida Florea, involved in civic initiatives, educational projects, research, and architecture. The studio explores the relationship between space, landscape, and the user through temporary interventions that encourage new ways of interacting with natural or urban places. At Făgăraș Fest 2024, the team created the installation ‘It’s oh, so quie’”, a straw-bale amphitheatre that became a central point of the festival.
The event is supported by Alpha Bank.
